It's not exactly expensive to join the RHS - the cost of a magazine subscription - and the benefits are many, including a good magazine, but it's hardly the RHS's fault, or its "privileged" members if the nurseries selling plants at the show don't bring enough stock to last the whole show.
It is also possible to note the nursery details and either visit or buy online afterwards. Â
I really think these private village/town  help groups and  Facebook/social media groups should be stopped, leaves it open to all sorts of devious goings on.Â
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.Â
It does seem odd. Here it's all being co-ordinated by the counties under central guidance.  They are favouring group lodgings with public transport facilities so social or even holiday village and camp housing where possible to maintain a community but only after inspection and contracts. Â
The expectation is that they will need help finding schooling, training, work and, eventually, permanent housing so individual rental homes and 2nd homes come next and, finally, lodging with occupant owners but all after inspection and contracts and establishment of support networks as they are likely to be here a while and maybe permanently.
It does seem to be shambolic in the UK. There was a case highlighted where somebody with a very large house was turned down because the number of people they could take in, in the eyes of the jobsworths, made it a 'home of multiple occupancy' and it would then have to comply will all manner of regulations. The owners would continue to live in the property and didn't require fire doors, hard wired smoke alarms etc when family members stayed with them. When government departments get involved all common sense seems to fly out the window.
I went to our local garden centre earlier for more compost. Paid and then went out to collect it from the car park. There was a car parked, almost completely blocking access to the stuff I wanted. I could just about get to it on foot but no way of getting the car anywhere near. I hung about for around 10 minutes then struggled past the parked car and loaded the car. As I was driving away a person came out with a trolley loaded with plants and proceeded to load this car. They had obviously parked there (not a parking bay) when they arrived so they would be able to load their car easily when they left. Ignorant ******* (insert your own word)
They're so selfish these folk, aren't they @KT53? Me me me....:/ I'm slightly grumpy because my car got serviced on Friday and I'd asked them if they could look at the radio because it wasn't working properly. Turned out to be needing a new aerial. Bit annoying, but I said ok, as I like the radio if I'm driving, even when I can't get a signal on the long journeys and switch over to CD. Nae bother says he, we'll order the part but it'll be Tuesday. Can you bring it back then? Fine said I. No word from them. I presumed someone would phone to say the part was in or it wasn't, so it got to 11 today and I phoned. Oh err sorry.... Can you bring it tomorrow as we've now had a lot of bookings over the weekend? Just as well I didn't turn up today then. Oh - and it's 66 quid. Maybe I should just have said forget it. Bl**dy modern carsÂ
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
@KT53 There was a big wheel drive that I found parked in front of and thus blocking the trolley stand in front of LIDL no less than 3 times in 3 weeks last summer.  British registration!Â
@Fairygirl last July, in preparation for all Possum's furniture and goodies coming back from Belgium we lobbed our old bed out thru the landing window, in pieces, so OH could take it to the dump.  He managed to break the aerial when loading stuff on the roof rack of the Zafira.  I took to playing CDs thinking she was old and that was why her radio signal was dodgy. Â
Last week - 10 months later - he dared to complain about the CD I was playing (50s rock and roll) so I said tough, radio's buggered. He confessed about the aerial and has now ordered a new one on the internet.  8âŹ50. Arriving on Thursday.Â
First flush of Arthur Bell climbers have blown ( is that the word?). Anyway, they're all fluffy. Plenty more buds . Hopefully they won't get a blast of hot sun.
Donât get me started on people parking like pr*cks, we regularly get them blocking the drive or parking as close as they can get without technically blocking, on both sides which means we donât have the space to turn the car to get off (road isnât the widest) when we had the plasterers in they parked across the end of the drive, and someone parked so close behind their open rear doors that they couldnât actually get in the back of the van, they had to close one side, walk in, then open it again!!
the place theyâre visiting has a very good purpose built car park with plenty of parking and a great in/out system but theyâd rather block our drive
