It's a funny thing. If walking along the road, if I so much as look towards someone let alone speak, I get funny looks, but I've taken to going once a week or so to the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust reserve at Potteric Carr for a walk, and there everyone says hello except the groups of serious twitchers (you can tell who they are by the extra-large equipment that they carry around).
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

Are you getting funny looks for eyeing up people's equipment? :#  I must admit my equipment is much smaller but some birdwatchers have politely offered to show me what their larger things can do.

The school isn't being very helpful at the moment. Our youngest has no illness symptoms but is likely to have caught the pox from his brother by now. Apparently it can take a week or more for him to show the spots though and then it would be another week for him to be all clear. He'd be infectious two days before the spots show up. If we keep him off this week just in case then he'll probably miss the week after and then it's half-term with two extra inset days meaning he won't be back in school until March. The school says there are no guidelines and we can send him in if we want but the judgment is up to us. They're all going to get it eventually whatever happens I suppose.

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Booked for a mini break to Gibraltar this week, hoping for maybe a couple of days of sun, and warmer temperatures. OH checked the weather forecast last night, now expecting cold, rain, and winds gusting to 60mph. He is now in a filthy mood, with the added possibility of the flight being redirected to Malaga and a boring coach ride. Probably should have just dug a hole in the garden and chucked the money in that instead. Not a happy bunny.

I'd take a holiday in any weather right now. I've had to postpone my plans for a few days away this weekend and postpone is looking more like a full cancel. Maybe we'll get away at Easter. :|

The tragic scenes in Turkey don't seem much different to the devastation wrought by Putin in Ukraine.

The big difference is that the devastation in Turkey hasn't been done intentionally, by a land grabbing lunatic.
