Apparently I only need to consult a doctor if this cough doesn't get better after three weeks or if I start coughing up blood. We took the kids out to use the scooters they got for Xmas today and I had another bout of sweating and getting so hot that I was nearly sick. I've drunk so much water today and still feel dehydrated.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

It's frightening that we no longer have any real access to GPs anymore. Illnesses can no longer be treated before they become serious enough to warrant hours in A&E or an ambulance.

The family reunion the week before xmas was marked by his sister having the Snowdon sniffles.  I got it, followed by t'other half.  Xmas day got cancelled. I went up to mums on boxing day. Himself is still coughing, nearly two weeks in.

The Wednesday before Christmas, my foot was really painful. I called the local surgery, said it wasn't critical but they said they could see me that afternoon, so I went, got there a bit early, saw the doc almost as soon as I got there, he came up with a diagnosis that I am confident is right, so now I know what to do. The only bit that doesn't work is if I decide to see a podiatrist - he said it'll take months on the NHS so I'll have to pay for a consult. I haven't decided yet whether to do that.

I know it is bad in many places, but not everywhere.

@wild edges that's more than 'just a cough' you have.  You really do need to persist to get to see a doctor on Tuesday.

if you can't get to see a GP  asap @wild edges, can you consult your local pharmacist?

My Dad rang 111 just before Christmas and they advised him to see a doctor. When he rang the surgery he told them he'd phoned 111 and that seemed to do the trick, he got an appointment for the next day.
You really need to take this further @wild edges,  a pharmacist should be able to help, at least to begin with.

@wild edges They were talking to a GP on Breakfast this morning.  To paraphrase what he said, if you have just a cough which has lasted more than a couple of weeks you need to contact your GP.  If you have other symptoms at the same time, you should contact your GP immediately.

This is why so many people are turning up at A&E. If the GPs aren't available, what else are folk meant to do?
I'd agree - @wild edges, you need 'something' to help you, otherwise it won't get better. I struggled for ages with a horrible chest infection decades ago. I should have gone to the doc, but I didn't.  :/
