NOT a fashion statement?! Woe is me, I was sold some welding sleeves under false pretences - but what about polo shirts, shorts and wellies? Surely that's a look worth the cover of Vogue?

Somebody has missed a great chance.  Stick designer labels on them, put them on the catwalk and the fashionistas would all be walking through town in them.  Looking even bigger 'Richards' than they already do.

...what like having trousers that have wear holes built in when you buy them or trousers that appear (and often were) falling down? Surely people are stupid enough to buy such nonsense?... (says he pressing his Oxford Bags)
C'mon then ...what's the fashion that you wore and now think '...I was a mug punter...' - and which fashion would you wear again?

    Can I be curmudgeonly about " lionesses " ?
Fingers crossed Germany win and they'll stop bangin' on about it all day long.

Oh, c-mon Hosta. I'm completely in agreement with you on the sport overload. Apparently there is no news, just a football match that hasn't been played yet and a load of people running and jumping. But even I wouldn't begrudge people some small joy they seem to find in vicarious victory. It passes me by, but it makes people happy and there's little enough of that.
At least it's now reached the point when I don't even bother trying to watch the news. I just put a film on or do something else and watch the weather forecast on the iplayer

@steveTu I can honestly say that I have never really been a follower of fashion. Probably some embarrassing stuff as a teenager, but you can't really make that out on sepia tone photos. :D  I'll never understand why people pay more for clothes with a damn great brand name across them.  I would want a discount for advertising.

I totally agree with you @Hostafan1.  Most of the way to the finals, and for the majority of matches in the finals, England played a bunch of no hopers.  Still they bang on about some woman breaking the record for the number of goals scored for England.  If the England men's team had scored something like 70 goals without conceding a single one, I'm sure their goal records would be way above that.  There are very few female international football teams where the players are full time professional players.  It's like a top Premiership team playing a team from the local park and bragging about beating them.

    Indeed so.
The 1/4 final with Holland and ..... someone else, was played in some "stadium" outside Manchester with a capacity of 12,000.  A fairly decent measure of how significant it is.
Yes, they've sold out Wembley for the final, but for the most part it's just their mums and girlfriends who go to watch.
Does anyone know the standard ( no resale ) price of a ticket to the final compared with a ticket to the men's final?

I too dislike the wall to wall sports coverage at the mo and have watched none of it, having had the foresight to have plenty of documentaries and a film or three lined up for summer viewing.

However, I am enjoying the reports of the England team beating top ranked nations and have also noticed there seems to be far more scoring of goals and noscandals involving cheating, diving, prima donnas or off pitch bad behaviour so I say cancel men's football and stick to the female version.  Far more entertaining apparently.

Tickets for today's final are £15 to £50. For the World Cup final in December they are about $600 to $1600.
