@Lizzie27 sorry to burst your bubble, but you do still contribute to emissions when you have home deliveries, unless the deliveries are made by horse and cart.  There is a big van with a diesel engine used for the delivery.

One vehicle doing lots of deliveries is likely, on balance, to be more eco-efficient than a lot of vehicles each driving to the supermarket and back again for one ‘delivery’.
Also, supermarket fleets are moving (albeit gradually) towards electric powered vehicles, and at least many now use battery-powered refrigerators on board so that they’re not using the engine to keep the food chilled.

There's also a lot less embedded energy in one van than in 40 or 50 cars

There are 2 firms doing the donkey work for Open Reach in this area putting cables in for superfast broadband. They are closing roads (lanes) at will, as and when. On Tuesday I had a 20 mile detour all for the sake of inadequate signage. To say that I was annoyed was an understatement. They reopened the roads at night.
Wednesday evening they didn't so I checked the roads, made sure they were safe (no sign of any work being done) and turned the road closed sign round to open the road. I reported it to the local councillor because to close one road in this area causes massive problems.

Turns out they are operating illegally. They need to apply for a license to close roads which costs money but they are cutting costs and doing whatever they feel like. Hopefully the roads dept will be up today to sort them out.

Somebody, in their wisdom has decided to relocate the entrance to our local train station.  The entrance/exit used to be at a 4 way junction controlled by traffic lights so it was easy to get to/from the station from any direction.  The new entrance/exit is onto a section of the inner ring road and traffic can only turn left, joining that road.  The reduced capacity of the car park also means many will have to park in the overflow carpark which is on another road, linked by a walkway.  Before the change that was a driving distance of about 600 yards, it is now nearly 3 miles, virtually completing a complete square, unless you want to chance your arm by doing an illegal U turn at traffic lights.  I pity anybody who arrives about 15 minutes before their train is due to leave and can't find a parking space in the main car park.  At busy times it can take 15 to 20 minutes just to drive on side of that square.

Is anything being done about it KT53?

we had exactly the same here @Uff. We had to tell delivery drivers to just ignore the signs and drive through. And we also found out they didn't have permission - too much bureaucracy and it would take too long relative to the amount of time they needed to close the road. They spent about 8 weeks annoying us. We should have fibre to the door in the next couple of weeks though, so worth the disruption in the long run

I very much doubt it @Uff.  They come up with these ideas, implement them and only then realise the changes have caused chaos.  Then they wast even more money putting things back as they were.
A couple of years ago they decided it was a good idea to reduce 2 lanes of traffic to 1 at a couple of the busiest roundabouts near me.  They took one lane out to create a section for cyclists.  The result was almost total gridlock at the junctions which had been extremely busy in the mornings anyway.  Within about a week the new lines were removed, 2 lanes reinstated, and service as normal resumed.  Rumour had it that the cost, including the consultants, was in excess of £100k.
The latest is a temporary road closure, although the closure is for the entire school holiday, of a section of road by Severn Trent.  The closure is necessary for work on the mains but apparently the diversion signs have been so badly positioned that people are going round in circles and ending up back where they started instead of rejoining beyond the roadworks.  Unlike motorway diversion signs they haven't used squares or triangles on the signs to differentiate between the two directions.

God's truth, some people haven't got the sense they were born with.

Working outside just now and a pickup stopped to collect a diversion sign, I asked if they were closing anymore roads today and he said no not for a few weeks when Open Reach would be connecting up. He then said beautiful area round here isn't it, peaceful too. I can assure you it isn't often I lose my temper - but I did. He shot off pretty damn quick.

I moved a road closed sign yesterday raisingirl, no-one working where I wanted to go.

I thought I was going to go a whole morning without being grumpy, but no! Dartcharge came to the rescue.
I used to drive a bit and at a minimum crossed at Dartford twice a year - so I set up an account and pre paid (I think I had £20 on my account) and I also had both my car and my daughter's registered (she used to regularly drive up to Blue Water or some such awful shopping centre). I thought this morning I'd remove the car my daughter was using as although it was scrapped last year, I saw it back on the streets. Simple log in and remove the car you'd think. But no - after a period of inactivity, Dart  Charge remove your account apparentl - but don't refund any balance before doing so. I have to be honest here and say they did notify me, BUT in my defence they said I had 90 days - and at that point I was one of my regular bi-annual trips via the tunnel, so ignored it. But Covid stuffed all that anyway. The only mitigating thing is that they delete the whole account and car details anyway, so removing the car isn't a problem, it's gone anyway - them having my money (I wonder how many £100k's they have of people's money in deleted accounts?) is though!
