Just thought I’d add that I’m pretty sure I saw one of these trees at NT Tyntesfield (near Bristol) today. There wasn’t a label or a gardener to ask, but I’d bet my bottom dollar it was one and the same. I’m going back in the spring so I’ll try to find out then 🤞 . It was planted in the tropical section with palms etc.
The tree was already in the garden when we moved in eight years ago. It was growing in an area of lawn which is in partial shade until the afternoon. We didn't know what it was so we decided to just leave it alone and see what developed. As I said, it hasn't done much since then. If the suggestions that it's a Metasequoia Glyptostroboides are correct, it's probably fortunate that it hasn't grown as expected because it would be in totally the wrong place!
The Tyntesfield tree had more leaves than yours but it was strikingly similar, no branches though perhaps yours has had some cut off. I was so 😡 when there wasn’t a label.
