Thank you all They are way ahead of the others without really any reason I can see but it's nice to have them so early.
I managed to lose a nice one last summer, Lunar Neon, I had it a few years and then noticed it had gotten really small. I didn't think I had accidentally buried it and caused it to rot but when I examined it, it all came away in my hand, which was a shame.
@Slow-worm It is strange that they didn't come back they are really tough. Lifting and splitting can upset them and burying them with lots of leave mound can kill them with kindness.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
@GardenerSuze yes I was surprised, but now you mention it, they were underneath the big cherry tree and I never clear the leaves off the borders, so that's probably why then. Thanks for that, I'll remember it for next time.
Ive got a few yellows, mostly Harvingtons but they are all very green currently, I dont have much luck with the yellow colours for some reason. Do they start green and get paler?
Gorgeous thread. Must try some pink/purple hellebores next year.
And thanks @GardenerSuze for the info about leaves. Mine have all been buried under mountains of leaves, esp from the plum tree, which may account for the way some seem to have disappeared.
Here is one survivor... "Harvington Double Blush"... on this pseudo-spring morning.
@WhereAreMySecateurs Lovely photo. You do need to be careful that they don't disappear under lots of leaves. They do like leaf mulch but too close to the plant can cause leaf loss.

Heres my latest to open. I unearthed a few that had gotten buried today. Had rotting issues on some new ones. I put cinnamon on though like I used to do with orchids whose centres got wet and started rotting and it worked a treat! Red spot double just opening. I think this is the first time as I had a bunch of 9cm potted ones from farmyard nurseries a few years ago slowly growing away. Decaya pink going mad. Behind it some of the ones I unearthed earlier. Weve had a rat digging under the shed, think they got buried.

I noticed one of my Harvingtons was out earlier, pink and spotty, I will post pics in the week.
This is HGC Ice 'n' Roses Red, a bit weather worn and the flowers are decidedly paler than the deep red when I bought it last year
