    Is there a manhole cover anywhere nearby? Ours is only about a foot or two away from the vent.

    No they don’t, I asked, they think it might be a sewer inspection port, but I thought the sewer runs down the other side of the garden. 
    I don’t think it could be an Anderson shelter, those would be at the bottom of the garden and this is up at the top near the house.

    We’ve got a similar one too and it’s a sewer vent pipe. Like LG, every house in our road has one. There’s probably a correct technical name for it which I don’t know.
