I still have the occasional nasturtium flower popping up in a fairly sheltered sunnyish spot. Ā Theyāre really nice to see, though odd at this time of year.Ā
@Gearóid Re: Yes, it's been an odd winter. It was an odd year!
The real odd winter was in February/March 2020 when the Chinese stopped working and polluting and we got here in Wiltshire for 6 weeks a pattern of rain and storm from Friday at 4 PM to Sunday at 4 PM, followed by sunshine from Sunday 4 PM to Friday 4 PM.
Just read this article that confirms first flowering times are getting earlier and earlier. And it brings the risk ofĀ āecological mismatchā ā when plants and hibernating or migrating insects, birds and other wildlife are no longer synchronised.
I bought it for the winter colour but having seen how big they can grow Iām now not sure where to put it.Ā
Can they be tamed so they donāt turn into monsters?Ā
One is about 8ft tall with lower branches, and the other is more of a bush. Both were planted as a small plant around 1ft tall. This was quite a few years ago. I think one was named 'Charity', but i can't remember the other. I've seen a 4ft hedge of them, so i think they can be easily managed.
