Thank you everyone. I have had a look at the suggestions. Some of them are a bit too yellow in the centres for me but Desdemona is lovely. During my exploration online I came across Boule de Neige which looks very promising. If my new Margaret Merrill gives up on me I may well replace her with that one.
I quite like Harkness roses..or perhaps they just like my soil conditions ? (improved clay) Having said that, I found MM quite 'needy' and when I moved it, it never recovered. I have Harkness Red that does quite well but my most successful rose has been Alpine Sunset bred by Cants of Colchester.
'Margaret Merrill' has been somewhat superseded by better varieties in recent years.. Two of the best, which should be in every potted rose garden are..
'Chandos Beauty'.. and 'Prince Jardinier'.. which I admit to not having grown before, but I've just ordered one..
'CB' can get a little lanky and may need a cane inserted for support.. I cannot show any photos of this variety as I lost them all when a laptop broke..
..here's what I wrote about it on another site.. ''..this outstanding, sweetly scented rose from Harkness Roses, has one strange habit, it has lanky growth, that's sometimes rather one sided... needing support... I should like to grow it much larger than I've allowed so far.. Some outer petals can get a little spoiled by rain, or insect damage - I pull those off.. otherwise, it's so terribly photogenic and deserves the best camera [not mine], and the best photographer [not me]...''
..here's what another member wrote about 'Prince Jardinier' and why I've just checked out with one..
''Each perfectly formed, high centred, soft shell pink flower is petal filled and exquisitely perfumed with a rich fruit & citrus scent. Its beauty is matched by its robustness, winning the prestigious ADR contest in Germany, this rose has extraordinary disease resistance, almost unheard of in a hybrid tea. Ideal in pot or ground alike. Height: 1.5m''
I will also sing the praises of 'The Anniversary Rose'... this is an outstandingly healthy rose for pot or garden.. the scent is exquisite and one of the best in my garden.. the foliage has remained intact and healthy all season well into winter..
Many thanks to all. I will check out CB and PJ. Unfortunately, the Anniversary Rose is a full pink which I am not looking for. I would like a white flower with a hint of pink down in the centre. As I wrote before, I have Gertrude Jekyll which is not dissimilar to Anniversary Rose. Any rose I have in my garden has to have loads of perfume to keep its place with me. A difficult choice sometimes as so many of them have delicious scent.

I must not buy it.
I do not need it right now.
It will be interesting to hear how it does with you. Very well I hope.
