Rose Margaret Merrill

Does anyone have any thoughts on this rose? I have tried growing her before a couple of times now, she seems to have rather a weak constitution. Or I am not giving her what she needs? I have treated her the same as the rest of my roses but she soon languishes and turns up her toes.
I love her perfume. delicate colouring and form. Is there another variety which matches these qualities, and has a more robust constitution? I do not have room for large bushy types, have a weakness for David Austen varieties, mainly for scent.
Any suggestions welcome.

I dug one that was embedded in the patio. It got a severe root pruning and survived. It has a wonderful scent  and repeat flowers. It's still not in ideal conditions but is doing ok. Would probably do much better but the premium rose spots are all occupied . I would definitely say it's not weak
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • Sounds like I need to put more effort into looking after mine. I am planning to put her near Gertrude Jeykyll.

I've had two and it's definitely not what I'd call a strong rose. I do like it but wouldn't buy it again. Have a look at 'A Whiter Shade of Pale' or 'Champagne Moments'.

  • Thank you for the suggestion, I will check them out.
You have cheered me up as I was blaming myself for lack of or inappropriate due care and attention. I managed to keep her going for abou 4 years, my best effort with her.

If you want a similar colour and a wonderful scent try Desdemona it’s a DA rose and very healthy. I love it
  • Thank you. Will do.  I am a great fan of the DA range f roses. A bit like me, Old Fashioned!I particularly like the pink flush in the centre of Margaret Merrill, it is such a delicate colour combination.
