I wear the Country Garden shoes that you get at Garden Centres for £10-£15. I do everything with them including digging up the lawn. I would never enter my garden with shoes coming from a walk outside. I might be over cautious but I think I might have unwanted seeds under my trainers.
I like short ankle height wellies which look more like Chelsea boots. Easy to slip in and out. Good for all weathers and easily cleaned and stays clean looking because no nooks or crannies for mud or grass clippings to hide in. Has lasted surprisingly long too.
Yes, I have done. I'm disabled and can't stand for long, so I get comfortably seated and attack everything I can reach. My feet aren't moving, so don't get stuck. Also, I'm diabetic, so I'm used to having needles permanently stuck in me.
I can't manage broken glass, but most rocks and gravels aren't a problem.
Well done, @seacrows, a determined gardener! I went barefoot everywhere, apart from school, for ten years while growing up in Barbados. Your feet toughen up after a while and remain that way! Not sure that I would venture out barefoot in my UK garden though, especially in winter!
These are the best slip-ons I've ever bought. Called 'Sloggers' I've only ever seen them once in any garden centre and luckily they had my size. There seem to be many similar things for women but precious little for men cos' they think we're all bustling about doing heavy macho things all the time.
