Since covid we have lost about three quarters of our members for various reasons and as the cost of speakers have gone through the roof and now most add traveling expenses as well, we have been relying on experienced members to give a talk so far since we started meetings again.
The other problem is that a lot of speakers turn up with slides for their talk, almost like looking at someones holiday snaps.
I hope we get a few more members this year, as the committee were saying we could not carry on otherwise!
I think it was the committee that didn't want to carry on with our garden club @Braidman but as the membership wasn't consulted I don't know for sure Maybe we could start again once the "new normal" is a bit clearer.
We suspended our hall meetings for the duration and used Zoom. We even kept the raffle. Our committee has a meeting on Feb 8th when we will discuss 'live' meetings.
A local nursery owner brought all the gubbins needed for hanging baskets once. The speed he did it in was amazing. We were also given the very good reasons why his premises had craft workshops, sold ice creams, had a cafe. Just straightforward economics.
