Speaker for Gardening Group required

I am programme secretary for a small group of keen gardeners in Lincolnshire. I am looking for speakers who are local. Unfortunately we cannot afford to pay a great deal £50 - 75.
Any help/suggestions welcomed

Maybe ask at your local horticultural group, college or allotments. They would know the local stars.

The RHS publishes a list of garden speakers on its website, as do the Cottage Garden Society and the Garden Media Guild and the Hardy Plant society so have a Google.

Failing that ask at local gardens open for visiting and maybe nurseries to see if anyone there is willing altho I do think it might be difficult with your budget as there will be appearance fees plus travel costs to consider.

If you can track down your local U3A garden group you might find a member who would be willing to give your group a talk.

Whereabouts in Lincolnshire? It’s 80 miles or a 2 hour drive from Immingham to Stamford.

In addition to the suggestions so far, contact local horticultural colleges to see if one of their lecturers would be interested, local stately homes and NT properties to ask their head gardeners, and put out an appeal on Nextdoor.com for suggestions.

At least three ‘celebrity’ gardeners live close to Stamford. If that’s your corner of Lincolnshire they might just be prepared to give you a talk on a goodwill basis.

Adam Frost and his school are in Stamford.

It might be a case of looking for someone who would speak for free and offering to pay for travel costs and lunch etc.

  • One time we had the Head Gardener from Exley Gardens (Hants) who was off to Nepal the next day.

Our local family run garden centre had been doing "show and tell" evenings for our garden club before the pandemic. They came twice a year with a load of plants and talked through the merits of each one. There was usually a general theme ie. winter colour, scented plants etc.
They also held a discount shopping evening each
May at the garden centre which was always well attended.
Unfortunately the pandemic has seen off the garden club but the helpful and friendly garden centre is still going strong.
