Which is why I read the I newspaper as its politically impartial. The rest I take with a pinch of salt and like with everything I interact with,  I come to my own conclusions.  I'm not on any social media other than this.
On the subject of the BBC
What I find amazing is that everyone in Britain has been sold a rebranded version of come dancing! Angela Rippon has been robbed! (That shows the era I remember it from!)

If your talking about inews its owned by dmg media which is basically the Daily Mail. Maybe not as independent as one's led to believe.

Kili, my guess would be that this forum subsidises licence fee payers. A quarter of BBC’s income comes from sources other than the licence. I expect the BBC charges Immediate Media a hefty fee to use the Gardeners’ World branding and this money is recouped by advertising.

I'm happy to pay the license fee but I'd prefer if they didn't spend so much if it on sports.

Sounds about right @BenCotto. Thanks for that, makes sense.

I am quite surprised by how many say they don't use BBC services.  I wonder how they get news and current affairs.
However, there are many things we pay for in a complex society,  but don't use ourselves. Generally,  they are of so much value to the whole that it is worth requiring payment from all, including those who don't use them. For me, the BBC falls into this category.

I’ll add to that @Posy that we all benefit from the £500,000,000* paid in tax by the people the BBC employs.

In assuming they pay tax on programmes that they sell abroad or pass on to Dave etc, so that revenue should be taken into account when the cost of the BBC is calculated.
I wish they'd save money by letting their reporters sit in a studio rather than stand on a roof or whatever across from the houses of parliament. It's really annoying to listen to them shouting above the weather and the traffic

But it's not all about the entertainment is it? If you look at the cost of a newspaper, they're about 50p - some more, some less. For that you get news, sport, entertainment. The BBC (? - the licence) charges about the same at the moment - you get their web pages for free, news on TV and radio. Then there are factual/educational and kids programs. I bet most people in this country grew up with the BBC influencing part of their life. It isn't an entertainment charge on one media platform.  I personally think the BBC will have a rough time competing on entertainment with organisations that have bigger budgets - a bit like Burnley competing with Man City - but, Burnley and the ilk bring more to the game than just gloss. The BBC is and always has been vastly more than the entertainment, but how long would the news services last without the licence subsidy - so what will be lost if the BBC goes?
When all news is owned by tycoons, who holds anyone to account?

AND maybe I'm being bloody stupid here, but it costs vastly more. If you look at subscription you pay with no control. If netflix want to up their charges by £1 a month next year they will. If you suddenly realise, like with the football, that the bundled packages spread each year - and the costs then increase. Originally just Sky, then Sky & BT, then Sky, BT and Amazon...then... each costing. Ditto entertainment - how many subscription  players are there now? Sky, BT, Netfix, Amazon, Disney... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_streaming_media_services ..... Each one charging what £9, £10... a month. Are those services obliged to provide educational and entertainment programming for kids? What about unbiased news?

I recall moaning about the cost of  the TV licence - everyone did. Then streaming and subscription services started, and the costs went up through the roof. Not only do you pay the subscription, but you have to have the delivery mechanism - so you pay also for phone or broadband services.

Like I said,  mine was an opinion that people will disagree with if they wish but I'm entitled to hold it.  I don't try to convince others to do the same.  They are free to do as they wish.  I trust nothing entirely... just look at our government and the police that don't investigate them so maybe it should be buckets of salt all round!

Should be subscription based like Netflix
Sky Tv is very expensive if you go for the whole shebang well over £50 pm last time I looked, you can break them down into packages to make it cheaper . I've had use of Netflix £5.99 / amazon prime video £5.99 / Now TV  which I pay for cause I want to watch the content, you have no choice with the BBC its pay or else you'll be prosecuted even if you don't want or need what being offered, that the difference between a subscription and mandatory licence fee.

Its subjective whether its value for money . It probably worth no more £25-30 a year for myself.

Last thing you want is a £159 bill dropping through the letter box when you're struggling to pay for essential bills like  heating / food / water  etc, maybe they should look into doing bands like council tax the lowest income house holds pay less .
