Wasn't really sure where to put this as it's not a 'garden visit' as such. But I always love being surprised by gardens or landscapes which are somehow out of context. I went wandering yesterday whilst my OH was shopping.
This is the latest phase of Sheffield's 'Grey To Green' project on the edge of the city centre. It's in an area which until recently was rather run-down but it's close to where Sheffield's castle was originally. It's great to see they've now turned a corner since their days of street-tree vandalism.
The planting has been chosen specifically to need minimal maintenance and no watering and makes much use of grasses (especially Calamagrostis & Miscanthus) Asters, Salvias & Kniphofias. It's difficult to get across in phone images just how bloody lovely it is, and how extensive, but I'll be making every effort to enjoy it through the whole season next year.
Clay soil - Cheshire/Derbyshire border. I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful
