Is this a weed?

I guess it must be, I don't think I've planted anything that it could be.  But best to check before I dig it up!:

    Doesn't look quite right for plantain to me.  Did you grow anything in the daisy family in/near that area last year?

    I think it's what get it in my garden too sometimes.
    By summer the leaves are a bit prickly then they produce a small deep orange flower.
    I think it may be called Orange Hawkweed

    I wondered about Hawkweed too, leaves are too hairy for plantain.
    Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

    Nothing Daisy related planted @BobTheGardener. I can't even think what was there! Not a lot I don't think. So if it's Hawkweed, should I get rid?

    If it is Hawkweed then yes - they produce seed heads like dandelions and you'll have lots next year if you let it flower.

    This is hawkweed Crazybeelady, it is similar? I can't make my mind up but I think not. Could be wrong though.
