I often sing [the wonderful] Frank Muir's " #Everyone's a fruit and nut case "@BenCotto. I think I was singing it yesterday, but I have to explain it to my daughters. I love fruit and nut though - my favourite chocolate Gregor Fisher's Hamlet ads were brilliant @AnniD. He's a nice chap too
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
On a serious note I do think a lot of these ads can contribute to mental illness and social issues.
I had a patient with quite serious psychiatric problems who sent a fortune to animal and Foreign Aid charities. Every time an advert came on TV she thought they were talking directly to her and were telling her (and her alone) that, if she didn't send money immediately, this particular (usually named) donkey, dog or child would die. She kept a pad by the sofa so she could write down where to send the money to. It got to the stage where she could no longer watch TV.
Similarly a friend's marriage ended in divorce because her husband was a compulsive gambler. Came to a head after he was arrested outside a Building Society 'armed' with a toy gun thinking about going in to demand money. He'd just gambled away all the family's holiday money 2 weeks before they were due to go away. For years my friend had hidden anything of value and kept secret bank accounts for fear they'd end up at the bookies or on a card table. What chance does he stand - alone in his grotty little flat late at night with enticing adverts for online gambling?
As for all the Christmas adverts showing big happy families gathered around a festive table and everyone thrilled to bits with their gifts... Well they can make me feel somewhat inadequate and a bit of a Billy-no-mates because we usually have a quiet, just me and him sort of a day (some years when he was working it was just me). For anyone with depression, alone, in a bad relationship or going through a painful separation - it's no wonder the Samaritans are so busy at this time of year.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
I have only seen this advert two or three times and it's for Pampers nappies for premature babies and the song to go with it is "I love you baby" which brings tears to the eyes. Obviously not on my hate list. I think the "hate" ones are too numerous to mention.
Ah - I thought they'd filtered south @Topbird. All the ads were great - not just the Christmas ones. The chap responsible for The Snowman ones, was very nervous about doing them because he had to have a meeting with Raymond Briggs Apparently all was well though
Teeth rotting tablet wouldn't be a choice for me either
Agree wholeheartedly @Topbird - along with general SM, some of these ads can be extremely destructive to people's lives. The Xmas ads infuriate me too. Having worked as a volunteer for local CAB's, the number of people who find themselves in dire financial straits come January because they were convinced they HAD to buy gifts they couldn't afford. Not to mention the appalling waste when excess food and tat is dumped after the Festive Season

Any advert may have an adverse effect on somebody, but the world can't stop because something happening somewhere is affecting somebody.
I was reading yesterday that a charity to do with food addiction complained about Pru Leith saying a dish she tasted on the Great British Bake Off was "worth the calories". For God's sake, it's a cookery programme and people on it are going to say positive things about the food!
The best solution if watching a programme with relentless, loathsome ads [of any kind] is to press the 'up' button on the remote and change channels for a couple of minutes. I've got quite good at the timing....

One of the best ads of all time was the KitKat one with the photographer and the pandas. Just brilliant
