Have you tried Olbas Oil, Busy-Lizzie? Don’t know if it’s available in France, but I keep a bottle in for similar blocked nose and snuffles. Quite pungent, But I find it a great help when I get bouts of sinusitis.
Don’t know why I’m awake at 3 am again. After worrying about, and then cancelling daughter’s proposed visit here for Christmas, I’d been feeling very down. However, we chatted on the phone for an hour last night, she was absolutely fine about it, expected we might decide to postpone her visit, and isn’t bothered at having a quiet break at home with her OH. So I’m feeling greatly relieved, feels like a weight off my shoulders, and I thought I might sleep through. Never mind, I shall carry on with the current book I’m reading.
Morning folks, been awake quite a long time, dying for a cuppa, but hubby got up at stupid 0 clock, and is asleep on the sofa,so I can't put the kettle on,(open plan kitchen/living room/conservatory. My mother in law, killed Christmas 30 years ago. But nursing anyway 40 years,I only had one Christmas off in the last 30,you had to work, that was it. When grandparents, parents were alive,it was great. I'm an only child, the last Christmas with my lovely Mum 1988, told the kids they better behave or else. The following year for some strange reason my now ex Husband invited my late Father and his then girlfriend. You should see the faces in the photos, really strained,no one smiling! My ex was rather surprised I didn't enjoy it,my Father rang me 6 weeks after Mum died to inform me he had a girlfriend,am sure you folks can figure out why things were difficult! We finally said "no" to ma-,in-law. (Used to get about 60 cards, every year much less, from hubbies cousins, aunts, uncles,) because of the rubbish spread on social media,by his family. A few times,my daughter has shown me what's been written,(and told them off) Hubby always wanted just the 2 of us,last year was fine. Always Mum and Dad doing cooking etc.He told me after years,he hates turkey 🦃. It's a relief not to have all the rows and problems caused by his family. Pitch black, meant to be raining Coffee with friend later. This sounds more like the curmudgeon thread!
Having a terminally ill Husband who isn't expected to live until xmas has boosted my invitations no end. I'm revellling in the prospect of doing absolutely nothing on the 25th, but feel for you @chicky and others who have had plans scrapped.
Thanks @Ergates, I don't know if Olbas oil is sold in France either. I have some in England from when I had a cold there about 5 years ago, but I hate the smell. Anyway, though I'm still bungled up and snuffly, I feel better than I did last night and I only woke up once, for the loo, which is normal.

Having been through the same position as you are now facing I feel for you too Hostafan and nothing anyone says will help despite kindness.
Good morning all 😊 ☕️ slept like a log until OH woke me with my coffee. Just checked the weather … it’s still relatively mild here and the app says we’re getting no more rain here until 25th … 🙄 cheers for that.
Sorry you’re feeling ‘got at’ @chicky … we know you’re disappointed that plans may have to change … although so far so good 🤞 no sign of lockdown or limits of numbers like last year. I don’t think anyone here is belittling you … can’t see it anyhow … just folk saying that sometimes ‘life happens’ … we don’t always get what we’d hoped or planned for … and most of us find the best way of coping with that is to smile and make the best of it rather than getting upset about something we can do nothing about. 😊 After all, even if it’s not quite as you’d planned, it’s one of those things that life sometimes throws at us to cope with … not your fault … 🤗 I think that’s what people are trying to say.
I truly hope you and your family, and all our forum friends have a lovely Christmas Day … 🎄🥂 🤗
I remember my first Christmas Day as a very newly married person … my then husband and I were living in a big caravan while doing up our first house (an old pub). We’d only been married three weeks and early on Christmas morning I put a small turkey in the oven and switched it on and got on with all the other stuff … sprouts etc … before a few family members were due to arrive … but when I checked the turkey I found it only half cooked and the oven getting cold … the gas bottle had run out and my OH hadn’t got the spare bottle I’d asked him to. 😡
He had to drive to the next village … knock up the village garage owner on Christmas morning who was thankfully one of the kindest of men and he arrived back with a full bottle of gas, and Christmas dinner was a few hours late …. memories eh?! 🙄

Hope the storms aren’t too bad @Pat E … happy birthday to your son on the 19th ….as you know it’s my OH’s birthday then too … and then my son’s on the 22nd. He rang me last night and said that if at all possible they’ll be allowed to finish at 2 on Christmas Day and then go straight home rather than checking in at their base, so he may be able to be with us about 4 ish … he’ll text me as soon as he knows … thankfully we’re having rib of beef rather than a turkey or goose so it’ll cook quicker … and we like it rare anyway 😋

I think you're very brave @Hostafan1.
