I think what still pees me off with this is the lack of direction ho ho ho). We already have electric cars on the roads and have started with an infrastructure of charge points, but if induction (and induction on the move) is a viable way, thenĀ don't we end up with the VHS / Betamax situation again? Don't we need a lead (pun intended) - or not as the case may be?
The market loves change - vinyl, 8 track, cd, mini disc, dvd, philips laser - as someone always makes money. But you just end up paying for the same thing over and over.
I honestly don't want to change cars again until it's clearer which way it's going as I simply can't afford to buy a car only to have £n,000 of battery replacements every few years - or to have to scrap that car as the market goes a different way.
Edited to add: I had hoped that autonomous EVs would be the way and relieve me of the problem as I wouldn't need to own a car at all - I would just use an app to request a car, go where ever and book a car to get back. Most trips a single seater would do. But they seems to have issues with AI in cars still. The issue of charging would then be the operators, not mine.

Iāve always missed out the middleman. Ā Vinyl, CD, Ā DVD. Thatās my lot over the past 60 years Anyone remember the Trolley Busses.Ā

@Lyn I had a vague recollection of them in Brighton when I was a kid - around an area called the Old Steine. I thought I'd dreamt it, but me old bro confirmed they were there. I was only five when they shut down in the 60s. I bet the Greens in power there today wished they had them back. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trolleybuses_in_Brighton
I sort of remember being on one as a very young child. Did sparks shoot out where it touched the wires? It was a rainy day so maybe I'm remembering the lightning.
Wimmin Ā We both have refillable Advent calendars and each stock up the other's one with chocolate or whatever each year. I've found the Green and Blacks mini bars are perfect for hers and buy the full tasting kit which helpfully comes with 24 bars (and doesn't have any plastic packaging). This year she found a good offer on chocolate coins for the kids and I'm getting the leftovers from that. I complained about the stingy content so she bought some mint chocolates to top it up. This morning my first pocket contained one chocolate coin. She told me there weren't enough mint chocolates in the pack to put one in every pocket. I pointed out that I saw her eat at least two of them before putting them in the calendar. Quality control apparently Ā
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
@Kili, I did say I was quoting a series of articles written in a specialist car owners magazine.Ā However you seem to have forgotten the weight of the elecric motor,Ā which is considerable,Ā and I'm guessing theĀ equivalent of the ICE engine.Ā Interesting tho the author was saying there are too many cars already, he was concerned that notĀ all the old cars would be scrappedĀ & simply end up in other markets, thereby exporting the problem .
Nothing to do with electric cars but a curmudgeon nevertheless............why is a Slipper ( and presumably also a shoe/boot ? ) size 6 smaller for Women than for Men ?. I take a 6 but despite trying in 4 different shops, the only size 6 which fitted was in the Men's department. Surely this is discrimination taken a step too farĀ
Given the smugness of every Tesla driver I've ever met, I feel they already feel above the rest of us.
Not available in the UK yet, but the Dacia Spring EV is as cheap as chips and they cant produce them fast enough. Not as flash (or costly) as a Tesla, but it would certainly do me at the price their going for on the continent.
I know they share a similar numbering system, but men and women's shoe sizes are deliberately different aren't they? A google on Clark's (other shoe manufacturers are available) size charts would show the differences in length and width.
Edited to add: Well, Clarks seems to show them being the same. I always thought they differed by the odd mm here and there, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Iām certainly of the opinion that menās shoes are designed primarily for comfort, and womenās more for looks. Especially as some of us have been guilty in the past of squeezing our feet into stylishly narrow footwear. You may have slightly wider feet ( or high arches like a ballet dancer!), which seems to be a wonderful excuse for shoe retailers to bump the prices up for āspecialistā footwear.
However, despite supposedly wearing a size 5 shoe, I have in my wardrobe everything ranging from 4 1/2 up to 6, plus clothing ranging from 10 to 16, all of which fit.
On a slightly related topic, why canāt I buy small or medium workgloves in the DIY stores? Or size 5, or even 6 safety footwear. Screwfix do have a range in sizes for smaller ladies, but they have to be ordered in. I suppose I should be grateful that they have at least acknowledged that there is a need and a market for womenās workwear. Ā
