I thought I'd update this thread, as I often feel grateful about the amount of help I've received on this forum and can safely say my garden would look a lot worse without out!
Sharing some photos of my garden last summer - it really was a delight, although most of what you can see are annuals I grew which meant a LOT of effort (but I do love it!). The current headache is trying to work out how to get more structure (climbers and shrubs) so that the garden doesn't turn completely to a load of mud from October onwards. I'm not very good at predicting the shape and size things will grow into, so unsure about how much space to give shrubs. Although I love the circular lawn, I suspect at some point I will change the shape and remove more lawn from both sides, in order to enable space for a backdrop of shrubs and climbers, before the perennials and annuals in front. But considering there was nothing but rotten lawn when I moved here four years ago, I'm pretty pleased with how it's going so far... will be interested to see what 2024 brings!
That is fantastic @gilla.walmsley! I love the planting you have done and the way the greenhouse seems to disappear amongst the plants. It looks sumptuous.I know what you mean about having shrubs for all year interest too. I love the mix of height, colour, shapes and texture you have achieved. It is an absolute delight to my eyes.
Sorry to witness the demise of the forum. 😥😥😥😡😡😡I am Spartacus
That is a stunning garden, very well done. I really like your design too @gilla.walmsley and the planting is sumptuous and colourful. I would enjoy it to the full before any more hard work projects.🙂
Thanks very much everyone for your kind comments - @Songbird-2 I can't take credit for the design, that mostly came from @BenCotto on this thread I do find it hard to enjoy anything for long before thinking about the next thing, it's like a painting that's never finished! Being a beginner gardener and with no friends who are interested in the subject to bounce ideas off, I've been grateful to receive so much help on this thread and the forum in general, and I thought it might be nice for people to see the fruits of their advice!
Definitely on the shrubs @clematisdorset - I've been a bit obsessed with learning to grow things from seed since I got the greenhouse - but it really does need structure. I wish I could fast forward to 10 years' time when the trees are more mature so I have a bit of height.
One of the most rewarding things about it has been seeing the wildlife respond to the difference between just a lawn, and now the pond, flowers and bird feeders. especially as my neighbours to every side have mostly concreted everything over.
