I can’t say I don’t have the time, because I do, it’s more like I do not have the inclination to seek out worthwhile YouTube videos. Occasionally I’ll look for a video to help with a specific task I am undertaking, and almost always there’s something pertinent, but goodness me they’re ponderous. The cinematography is minimal, the commentary is dull and laboured, and never once have I felt inclined to forward them to others, but it doesn’t stop folk sometimes sending them to me. And then I look at the comments. Oh my goodness. Were they perpetual school truants? How dispiriting to read such vacuity, and misspelled vacuity as well.

In short, I am no fan of home made videos on YouTube.
if the home videos on GW are anything to go by, I'm not missing much .

I think you have to take them as you find them.

Yes, there are a lot of "how to" videos fronted by people who think you are happy for them to bang on at you for several minutes before they get round to showing what it was you came to see.
But fortunately there's usually several on the same topic,  so you can often find one which "just gets on with it."

There are quite a few "garden tours," many presented by the owners of the garden, Lots from 15 minutes to half an hour long. But if you watch them, you can fast forward through bits that don't interest you.
I guess you can pick up some interesting information from some.

As vinyl jukeboxes are one of my hobbies there's several showing how to replace parts and check for faults. I found these interesting.

A while back was looking at Youtube videos on how to go about replacing fence panels in a concrete fence. After that, I got a video recommended in my feed where a fencing contractor in the USA was watching and reacting to a how-to video done by fencing contractors in the UK. I ended up watching loads of them, with him reacting to videos from various places, it was weirdly compelling.

    That sounds interesting
I should have made one about how I replace mine. (Not that I would).

As i've said elsewhere, I don't tie anything to the panels. It's tied to laterally strung wires between eyes a foot apart in the fence posts.
You can change a six foot panel by yourself and if you have an able wife, but better still with a friend.

I screw a big "eye" to the centre of the top baton.

I have a six foot sturdy dowel with a matching hook in the end.  You could use a bit of 2" X 2"
I connect the dowel to the eye in the panel, the pair of you pick up and hold it horizontally with the bottom resting on the tops of the posts.
The dowel will take the weight of the panel whilst the second person steadies one side of the panel as they stand next to the post.

You can then push up on the dowel  until the panel is close to vertical,  at which time it will start to slide down the slots. Best to stick an old cushion over the concrete base panel as it may come down in a rush.
As long as you hold on tight to the dowel as the panel  reaches near vertical, it "shouldn't end up next door."
Take out the eye and move on to the next panel.

I find this way you don't need steps and you don't damage the border.
My youngest son and I did a run of a dozen panels in less than half an hour.
Biggest chore was previously removing the old panels, though they rip out piecemeal easy enough.
  • We find You Tube very useful at times, fixing blinds, recipes etc,and also very educational,eg Arnos Cemetary, and the River Strid, never too old to learn interesting things.
@Doghouse Riley  is Fionas story on there?  It certainly should be.🌼

  • I watch a ton of you tube when standard TV has minimal that intrigues me or when the standard TV organisation's are never going to budge on affecting general assessment I simply switch over to you tube where there are some fascinating and skilled individuals making substance on a tight budget, everything from the tremendous development of individuals who live in vans in the USA, people residing off matrix, fixing vintage vehicles, mudlarking the flowing shore of the waterway Thames also bunches of planting counsel. I needn't bother with the Television leaders attempting to indoctrinate me I can do that without anyone else's help.

@bonniedawson900iIG9dunE, you’re perturbed about indoctrination and you watch a ton of YouTube. Hmm ….

My issue with YouTube tutorials is that they are so often ponderous and dull.

To be honest @pansyface, when I saw the resurgence of this thread, I thought for one horrible moment that the troublemaker had returned.... :|
