    I expect it depends what insects they were testing @BenCotto. It's been a popular midge repellent for decades, and was a well kept secret among hillwalkers. All outlets in walking areas sold it, and promoted it that way. Once the 'news got out', Avon took the huff though, and refused to market it as such. A missed opportunity perhaps  ;)
    I can't really testify to it personally, because they have to be hideously bad for them to bother me at all.

    I think the test was on some biting mosquito. I remember the report said some poor researcher (probably the work experience boy) had to put his/her arm into a perspex tank filled with the beasties for a defined period of time and at the end the number of bites were counted. This was repeated for each repellent.
