I do feel rather ashamed...I had planned not to buy any bare roots this year  :D Hopeless...

The Pheno Genos are mostly for a cutting garden I'm starting, we'll see how they do. Not too costly an experiment anyways :) I may need to add that Anniversary Rose at some point!

@Tack, I have those plant supports, rusted metal rose baskets from Leander ( I think but need to check). I bought them for my Austins which were very floppy to start with GJ, Winchester Cathedral, Margaret Merrill and Little White Pet. They did the job but have made pruning low down and/or manuring/collecting diseased leaves etc quite difficult. You can't get a lopper between the uprights to prune the thicker old stems. I can't lift them all off without cutting all the roses down to about a foot or so and actually now they are about 7 to 10 years old, they actually don't need them.
I do love the look of them though, especially during the winter months.

I love that Anniversary Rose @Marlorena and am very tempted especially as it was our 25th last week, was going to go for Pink Martini though - oh dear, more decisions and I really, really do not have any more room.

I bought some similar ones for peonies but find them too narrow at the base. Weeding and cutting back is hampered, but I don't like to lift them off in case I spear the tubers when replacing them.
I had wondered about using one for Rosa gallica officinalis but they are too narrow low down. And it would mean a hard cutting back to get the support over initially.

I've got this going spare. It's a bit smaller than ideal, but I may try it next year after pruning.

Thank you for your thoughts @Lizzie27 and @Woodgreen.  It will be an experiment I guess but I will try. These are for my potted roses and the lower ring diameter 42cm is only slightly less than the pot diameter. With only 4 uprights I hope the pruners won't be too hampered. If all else fails I'll lift them off, hard pruning is something I often resort to in exasperation. I can use them elsewhere if they don't work. I'll report back next year.

You could always try passing string around the rose, say mid-height and gently pulling it to make the whole plant narrower until you get the support over it, then release the string?
