A big moth was caught and a spider was approaching.
The moth escaped so I was saved the dilemma

I've tried several times,we have a lot of false widows in our conservatory roof,I have tried desperately to save bumblebees and dragonflies, and a few beautiful butterflys, the spider has always beaten me to it

The spiders in my garden are currently enjoying all the flies that seem to have invaded recently. More power to their... elbows...

I watched one the other day, enclosing his juicy little fly lunch.  :)

I'd say no its nature but on occasion I've been trying to get a moth/butterfly etc out of somewhere and it's flown straight into a spiderweb, so then I feel responsible and would help. If it makes it own way there then I won't intervene.

Very often the spiders web doesn't have a resident spider, then I will remove any butterfly, moth, bee or hoverfly from it.
  • Depends on the circs.  Old webs with no apparent owner then YES I would extricate whenever possible.
NO, I wouldn't deliberately deprive an active spider from a meal .

It depends on what was trapped
I've added things to spider webs :# I will admit I rescue moths from webs when I'm moth trapping though. I feel responsible for them if I've attracted them. I also may have stolen a few interesting creatures from webs when I wanted to photograph them. Solitary bees and wasps mostly. It's all for science...
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Mostly no but depends on what it is. I saw a small spider, no web, holding on fast to the leg of a small fly today. Interesting, watching the struggle.
