Deaf gradeners

Please put subtitles on the videos - there's an awful lot of deaf gardeners out here.    I also think you may actually be breaking the law by ignoring this disability.

Gardeners world can be viewed on iplayer with signing for the deaf.
Most modern tellies can have subtitles coming up.

Which videos are you talking about?

You asked the same question 6 years ago @KibAn.
However, subtitles are on most online video sites now, as @pansyface describes, and certainly on TV. I use them all the time.  :)

I logged onto Gardeners World website - no subtitles on Monty Don's videos.

If there's no option as described by @pansyface, then you need to contact Gardener's World itself to see if  they can  advise you - this is only the forum  :)

There are contact details at the bottom of the page, including a complaints option.  :)

Captions are provided on the GW videos on this site -
    e.g. -

At the bottom right there is a small white box with CC written inside - that switches the subtitles on and off.

PS - I have looked at some of Monty's videos on this site, and you are correct - subtitles are not available.
If you look for Monty's videos on YouTube they do have subtitles.
But I think you should also contact the team as you are right in saying that subtitles should be available for those that need them.

    Hello KibAn,

    Thanks for your post.

Please be assured we're absolutely committed to making the site as accessible as possible, for all gardeners.

We're still in the process of adding subtitles to the many hundreds of videos that we publish on the site. As several other members have noted on this thread, there are already many videos that have subtitles already, including our own No Fuss Guide videos, created specifically for the site.

We've now transcribed most of the GW programme clips, so will be adding the transcripts to the videos themselves over the coming weeks.

In the meantime, if there are any particular clips featuring Monty that you'd like us to prioritise, do please email us at [email protected], including the address of the page the video sits in, and we'll get those added as soon as possible.

Transcription of all the clips is a lengthy process. We have software that automates the first draft of the transcript, but that needs manually checking to correct the errors that inevitably occur. Thanks for bearing with us while we fit in this work around our other commitments.

    Best wishes,

    Daniel Haynes

    That's great news @Daniel Haynes
Can you give us an update now as to when the problem with the site rotating photos so they're the wrong orientation will be addressed which has been a pain in the neck for many of us over the last months?

    Many thanks

They appear to have GW on BBC2 on Thursday mornings at 8am with sign language.
Maybe this could be recorded for later viewing.

Dear Mr. Haynes,   Subtitles have been about for many years no there's no excuse for not using them earlier rather than in the future.      I gave up GW for a long time because deaf people were obviously not important and I find that is still the case.  Ann Kibble

I am deaf and use subtitles all the time (I don't sign).
I can't say I have found anything I want to watch lacking subtitles.
Subtitles may have been around for many years but older programmes may not have had them but as @Daniel Haynes says hundreds of videos have been transcribed and they are in the process of adding subtitles to them.
It is not a quick job and takes time to do it properly!
The transcribers are probably doing many other programmes in the BBC back catalogue not just Gardener's World.

I remember once watching an episode of 'Rosemary & Thyme' where the subtitles were for a completely different episode!!!
