It's more important in a greenhouse @PrettyFlyForACacti, just because there tends to be less room for them. Outside is easier. It isn't sun that ripens them though - it's just warmth, which is why they can be brought inside if weather deteriorates before they're all ripening.
I’ve just got mine on my decking, just been down actually as the wind has had one of them over. 🙃
Just to add, I am growing, Crimson crush, and blush. Have also grown mountain magic. I find the skins are thicker, and the flavour is not the best but OK. At least you get a crop. All my San Marzano, and cherry toms have had to be removed already. Shirley in the GH ok so far.

It has been horrible seeing all the posts in the last couple of weeks...I cross my fingers for mine. But the weather has been absolutely shocking this season.
I spotted the brown stains on the stems of 2 plants a few weeks ago, removed most of the bottom leaves to improve ventilation. Then we had hot weather for a few days, it looked like the progression of disease was paused and then with the onset of rain, more and more leaves, stems and fruit started browning. Next year, I'm going to grow only proven blight-resistant varieties. Or might give tomatoes a miss for a year or two.
