Bless 'em ... they just don't get it do they ........ total numbskulls ... way out of their depth.  They'd better stick to laying gravel ... they seem to get that right. 🙄
I'm not even sure they did that - judging by @evg's description!  :D

    Nice one @philippasmith2 ;)

Dovefromabove Actually I had to correct some issues with the weed membrane and I'm fairly sure that was what caused the issues with my lilly plant last summer when all the stalks snapped for no apparent reason at the time, I should have investigated them as a business closer because looking at their facebook its mostly cut grass and trimmed hedges with some occasional planting of stereotypical pot plants, I'm not blameless in this.
I couldn't let them get away with that one, normally I'd just let it go but at that point and some of the previous messages where they were trying to play the solicitor card(lol) I was losing the ability to be civil so I'm glad they haven't bothered replying, probably because they fact checked it and found they were wrong.

It seems all they do is grass/hedge cutting and some basic potted plants so thats on me for not going further than their graphics, good reviews and the fact they call themselves gardeners

They’re what used to be called ‘groundsmen’. 🙄
    hedgecutting, grass mowing etc.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

It's not all on you. A responsible professional would have either told you that what you asked for was outside their area of expertise, or they would have done the research properly and expanded their knowledge before agreeing to take it on.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

I agree. No need to feel any guilt about it whatsoever.  :)
