Is there a weed killer….

  • I wonder if Pelargonic acid cannot be used in a small and low-distance hand-held sprayer.  Probably better to use with a sponge and a thick non-porous rubber glove.

This stuff is one part of Neudorff weedkiller.  It acts rather quickly on contact with leaves.  It makes them go brown and shrivel up, in just a few hours.  Quite impressive compared to glyphosate, in this 'come on, hurry up and do something' instant expectation digital world we live in.
Neudorff also has Maleic Hydrazide, which is the systemic part, getting to the roots and destroying from there.  It also stinks!  At least the KN95 masks I have allow me to apply it without gagging!

Pelagonic acid, by itself, might not be enough to get rid of weeds for good, but could do a decent job of quick clearing, without too much damage to the hedge - it only destroys leaves it touches (apparently).  I mean you wouldn't want to dump glyphosate everywhere for that reason.

If I could get into the hedge with the mattock I would.

I’ll try and keep on trying though.

    Thanks @GravelEater

I think I’ll see how I get on with non chemical means first.

If it’s a battle I can’t win then I will call in the big guns.

Fifteenth rule of Mattock Club. After the first fourteen rules, which are largely about talking about Mattock Club, plus one about wearing steel-capped boots, because toes are important.
