An average watering can is around 6 litres. Over 3 cans for one growbag.  :D

I think they'd have turned to mush first @Lyn ;)

The instructions here are a bit different

    https://www.lovethegarden.com/uk-en/product/levington-tomorite-giant-planter-seaweed-3-plant-size

It says 4.5 litres per grow bag … not 4.5 gallons!!!

Appalling customer service and totally incompetent letter writing. I think a letter to the Managing Director is called for.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

They can't spell 'is' either  :D
I'm surprised the advice is not to make holes in the bottom too. Is that normal for growbags?
I'd have thought that's bound to make for a lot of waterlogged tomatoes, especially for those with little experience. If you were following the advice in that email it certainly would!

I’ve completely lost all faith in the company now and given up. Life is too short..

It's very annoying @Robertsprr. I can understand your frustration.

Probably stick to your other methods next year with pots and compost etc. At least you know where you are with those.

Oh well Ive put 4.5 gallons in each Growbag and they are still looking awful. They didnt say how long I needed to wait. I thought that overnight I would get trusses laden with beautiful red fruit. Not so. Mind you the other side of the greenhouse still looks good.

Im definitely going back to the old tried an trusted method of good manured garden soil. Its always worked in the past so no reason it wont work in the future. Im lucky that my Son-in-laws parents keep horses so wont be short of top quality manure.

  • Ok thanks for your help. I will just have to wait now till next year to get my normal bumper crop of Tomatoes, but certainly won’t be using Tomorite giant growbags.
I just googled Failed Tomorite giant grow bags and came upon your story. We are having exactly the same issues. I grow Chillies, Aubergines and cucumbers in our green house and always been successful, until this year. Everything is weak and very little fruit. The Chillies I always grow regularly dominate the greenhouse, and carry up to 100+ fruit per plant. Doubt there is more than a dozen per plant and the plants are weak. Same as the Aubergines and cucumber. I won't waste my time contacting the manufacturer after reading your story, but at least I now believe that the issue is the bags.  Thank you for your post.

Hi @acloweOg9UvktI - while I can understand you can't be bothered with the grief - it would actually be worth emailing them. If people don't complain, it gives companies a green light to treat people this way. The response to @Robertsprr 's emails was appalling.

Take some pix and get onto them  ;)
