Astilbe
in Plants
I have a deep pink Astilbe which is two years old. This year there's a large shoot growing with white flowers on. Is this normal?

A pic would help if you can manage it. The icon with the pic that looks like hills is the one to click on

The foliage is different from Astilbes.

I love it, and have quite a few different types in the various damp bits of my garden.
I would carefully take it out, and put it in a damp spot .... it will soon bulk up.

I'd quite like some for the bits in my garden where I have white Camassias. Would give a nice succession.

It's a great source of pollen for our honeybees .... if it's really warm (which it is now) they can also take the nectar too.
I grow Filipendula purpurea which is just coming into flower, Filipendula ulmaria 'Aurea' ... which I only planted this spring so is still beefing up, and Filipendula vulgaris which has a much more ferny foliage and seeds around nicely.
I agree .... camassias don't die very tidily

Mine are among shrubs mostly, but I have a clump which could do with something in front of them. I might move some in behind an Actea that's further along.
F. ulmaria Aurea looks like a nice plant. Might have a look for that
