    You are too kind @LunarSea but far from it.

    Can't believe the lens has fogged up, an L lens shouldn't do that, have you taken it back?

    Well it cleared within the hour after I brought it back in the house and left it uncovered at both ends. Can't see any residual effect and it would be difficult to demonstrate if I took it back to the shop. It was rather warm & humid in the greenhouse - conditions I'm not likely to subject the lens to regularly.

    I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful

    Thanks @Sheps. Well ... who knew? Every day's a school day. Don't think that plant name will catch on though :)
