Thankyou @Sheps. Really appreciate your efforts. I so wanted that to work but alas ... nothing. I followed your instructions to the letter. I get a blinking battery symbol whether it's switched on or off. I've tried both batteries, both well charged. What I can't understand is why it did this mid-shoot, ie. I'd not turned the camera off after taking the above shot, just viewed on the viewfinder and went to change the aperture and suddenly nothing on the top display except the flashing symbol.

I'll have to take it back to Harrisons in Sheffield where I bought it 3 weeks ago (now a week after my trial period ended!). It's the first used item I've ever bought and I was thrilled with it at first - cosmetically immaculate and only 222 frames shot. Maybe they'll take pity on me as I also bought an expensive lens at the same time.

Harrisons are normally pretty good @LunarSea I bought my 1D3 from them back in the day.

Have a read of this, it might shed some light on a possible issue.

Thanks @Sheps. Yeah I read that last night, along with a few other links, but the consensus always seems to be that it needs Canon's attention. Just typical! Oh well, back to the trusty old 40D.

If you are lucky Harrisons will help out @LunarSea especially with a camera that only has a 222 shutter count, even if it is used.

Canon really have dropped the ball when it comes to service and repair of older models, if my 500mmf4LIS ever fails it will become a £5000 doorstop.

Hmm a second-hand camera with only 222 frames shot sounds suspicious to me. Sounds like previous owner returned it to the shop because it didn't work as expected. Did you get a guarantee on that item?
