Roses - Margaret Merrill, a whiter shade of pale. Velvet fragrance, Mme Alfred carriers, to name four. Philadelphus - I have two and in the evenings they fill the whole garden. Sweet peas. Of course. Peonies, winter honeysuckle, sarcacocca, Daphne perfume princess, daffodils, sweet Williams, lilac. oriental lillies, and let’s not forget wisteria.
Philadelphus - growing up we only knew it as Mock Orange. Junior school celebrated May day with traditional May pole dancing and May Queen and King. We were encouraged to take a posy to school that day and my mum would always cut a few sprigs of mock orange. Whenever I smell it now I'm taken back in time 😊
I haven’t been able to locate the variety but there is a jasmine plant that grows in Syria and is the reason that its capital, Damascus, is known as the “city of Jasmine”.
Another vote for privet here. I love it - it takes me right back to my childhood. And the bees love it too. And, at the moment, sweet peas. Sweet peas in the house pretty much every day for the past few weeks and lots more to come. I will miss that scent when they are over. Love lily of the valley too - but it keeps just disappearing in my garden.
