Here is a quiz for you, its called

‘Tell me three things about ………’

You should keep prompt cards for each one with the question on one side and the answers on the other side.

Try to remember the three things without looking on the other side of the card.

If you can’t remember, don’t worry, look at the answers to remind you.

In time you will be able to memorise the answers without looking.

    Here are three examples:

    ————

Tell me three things about Floribunda roses:

They have multiple flowers on one stem, called clusters.
They repeat flower very well for a long time
They are more disease-resistant than Hybrid Tea roses

    ————

Tell me three things about Hybrid Tea roses:

An upright rose bush with long stems with a single flower at the end
Florists like them because they look good and last well in flower arrangements
They are less disease-resistant than Floribunda roses

    ————

Tell me three things about Patio roses:

They are small, compact roses that are easy to care for
They are suitable for growing in pots on your patio or balcony
Sometimes they are called Miniature roses

That’s a great start Ash, keep at it and you will soon be able to tell the customers at the Garden Centre about these roses. If you prefer questions, you could turn my suggested quiz into a question  ‘Can you tell me three things about … ? Whatever helps you learn and remember.

    Good luck!

How do i word some, i cant think how to word them.   Like why do florists like Hybrid Tea roses? Because they look good and last well.   Does that sound ok?  Also, How disease resistant are Hybrid Tea roses?  Less than Floribunda.   Do these two questions sound ok? Are they worded ok or can they be better worded?

Here is a set of questions that i've made, please help me to word them better or if more questions need to be added.   This is for my work, im fed up with not knowing anything about plants.  My line manager suggested looking a types of roses and their differences.

What are 3 types of roses?   Floribunda, Hybrid Tea, Patio

What are the multiple flowers that grow on one stem of a Floribunda called? A cluster

How often do Floribunda’s repeat flower?  A long time

What are Floribunda’s more resistant to than Hybrid Tea’s?  Disease

What is a Hybrid Tea rose?  An upright rose bush with long stems and a single flower on the end

How resistant to disease are Hybrid Tea Roses compared to Floribunda?   Not very

What are Patio roses?  Small, compact and easy to care for

What is another name for Patio roses?  Miniature roses

Where are Patio roses suitable for growing?   In pots on the patio, or on a balcony

Hello,  i need help on this please
  • NollieNollie Posts: 7,529
Hello Ashley I think that’s great! Below I suggest some small changes to make the questions and answers clearer and more accurate.

In  question 1 - I have added the word popular, because these three types of roses are popular and the most well known, but there are lots of other types too.

In question 3 - if you ask ‘how often’ a more logical answer is ‘frequently

In questions 4, 5 and 6 - it is better to add the word ‘usually’ in some places. The reason is that plants can be as unpredictable and different as people, even within the same type. For example - Hybrid Tea roses usually have a single flower on the end, but occasionally they can have clusters too. They are usually more disease resistant, but the latest varieties can be just as good as Floribundas.

Here are you questions and answers with my changes made in bold:

What are 3 popular types of roses?   Floribunda, Hybrid Tea, Patio

What are the multiple flowers that grow on one stem of a Floribunda called? A cluster

How often do Floribunda’s repeat flower?  Frequently

What are Floribunda’s usually more resistant to than Hybrid Tea’s?  Disease

What is a Hybrid Tea rose?  An upright rose bush with long stems, usually with a single flower on the end

How resistant to disease are Hybrid Tea Roses compared to Floribunda?  Usually less disease resistant

What are Patio roses?  Small, compact and easy to care for

What is another name for Patio roses?  Miniature roses

Where are Patio roses suitable for growing?   In pots on the patio, or on a balcony

Hi how do these sound,  do any need re wording to make the questions easier to read ?  I'm not sure about What are Floribunda’s usually more resistant to than Hybrid Tea’s?  Disease,  How resistant to disease are Hybrid Tea Roses compared to Floribunda?  Usually less disease resistant,   What is the difference between a Hybrid Tea and a Floribunda rose? Hybrid Tea’s have one flower per stem. Floribundas have many flowers per stem.  Mainly they are a bit too long for my learning.

Ok, if that works for you that’s fine Ashley - maybe I made it too complicated for you. I know things about roses, but I am not an expert in learning.

I think the main thing is not to worry too much, you are doing really well.

    Hi Ashley,

Have you had a look on Youtube? There are lots of helpful videos presented by rose professionals as well as rose enthusiasts.  I’ve put some links at the end of this post.

    Some tips:

    Repetition, repetition,  repetition!

    1.

Writing things down by hand is a good way to help you remember things. You’ll need to get a notebook.

Watch the videos. You can stop the video when you need to write something down - keep your notes simple.   You can also slow down the video speed in “settings” (click the cog symbol) if they are talking too fast for you.

Afterwards, write up the notes again, but neatly into your notebook.  Also, do a really basic doodle of the rose to remind you of the shape or form.

Keep your notes really simple – a few words rather than rather than long sentences.

    2.

Saying things out loud also helps you to remember things.  Also, teaching someone else what you’ve learnt will help as well.   So the next time at work, point out a type of rose to a friend, a work mate or a customer and explain / tell them about it.  Put what you’ve learnt into a little conversation with someone.

You could take your notebook to work so you can check to see you’ve remembered correctly.

    3.

When making notes, I was taught to space out my notes generously on each page. Don’t cram everything in, it looks confusing and messy. It also means you have plenty of space if later you have to add something extra.

I would use an A4 sized notebook. Here is how I would lay out my notes:  Neatly handwritten ( I’ve typed it as it was quicker to show you), short and simple, well spaced out, do a doodle - “a picture paints a thousand words”:

Later you can add other notes and drawings to your notebook, like how to do a pruning cut, dead-heading and pruning roses,  fertilising / feeding and watering roses, or the names of the different parts of a rose.

You could also write down names of popular Roses and their colours, as well as Roses that you really like.

    ----------------

Some videos - but you may find others you like better: just type in the search box on the Youtube page and other videos will show up.
