Why can't you use guano? It's sea bird poo, not dead animal remains.

Oh! I thought it was also used as a term for chicken manure! I’ll check! Thank you 🙂

Hi all. I just use seaweed extract on my roses, is that a good one?

Sadly not, Lesley, the UK has much better plant food and I do miss the convenience of just ordering what I needed from am@zon. Here there are aisles of chemical fertiliser but few organic ones and those are very expensive and rarely have a good NPK balance. It’s (very) slowly getting better, I can now buy seaweed extract! However, I see the local farmers growing the same crop in the same field year after year, drenching them in artificial fertilisers and denuding soil life, so a long way to go..

Yes guano is seabird (or bat) droppings, used to have a bad environmental rep for destroying habitats/disturbing nesting seabirds, but I think it’s collection is strictly controlled and sustainable these days.

Hi everyone, and thanks for your time and advice. I’ve ordered the Organic Miracle Gro. All Purpose. I couldn’t find a vegan feed which had the NPK that DA advise. Sadly the DA isn’t vegan, so if anyone finds an organic, vegan feed near that ratio, I’d love to hear about it (9.5-7.5-10)

@Jack1974, l use seaweed feed on mine, failing that you can use tomato food.
David Austin mention Maxicrop but other seaweed feed is available  :)

Just to say that’s a ratio of one nutrient to the others, not a quantity, so for ease of calculation lets call the DA food 10 - 8 - 10

    5 - 4 - 5   is the same balance,  as is 2.5 - 2 - 2.5

A little variation in the ratios is fine as well!

I have so much to learn! Thank you for clarifying, Nollie
