    I have all three colours. The local cats have not shown any interest at all.

    i think that maybe valerian officialanis  - a completely different plant.

    I deadhead pretty rigorously.

    There is loads of it around here - including a bit in my own garden by the gate.  My sister came to visit last weekend and was impressed to see it growing in the castle walls.

    Gardening in East Suffolk on dry sandy soil.

    I can confirm that my cat goes absolutely crazy whenever I have valerian tea, far more of an effect on him that any catmint has ever had on him.

    He will happily shove his head inside my empty mug trying to get the dregs, then has a roll around on the bed for a while, before seemingly passing out in a sort of trance.

    I don't drink it any more, it was too stressful trying to fend him off...!
