Aphids and Broad Beans

I have black aphids appearing on the tips of my broad beans, plently of flowers but no signs of the pods yet ..... should I pinch out tips now, or wait until I see evidence of some bean pods? Thanks for any thoughts

Got any rhubarb in the garden, Jenny.welstand ?  If so, boil some leaves.  Strain off the liquid.  Allow to cool and use as a spray before a final spray with clean water.

I grew them from seed first time last spring, blackfly were dreadful, then read plant them in autumn. Did that last November,we have some blackfly, not as bad, beans ahead and some ready for picking. Will try the rhubarb, I have some more to pick, late this year.

November the 5th or as near as possible is the best time to sow and reduce the risk of aphids, we pinch out the tips as soon as possible, ours are ready to pick now.

Sure, Nanny Beach, never failed in Mid Sussex so should work for you.  It was during our time there I got to know about it, never seen an aphid of any sort here in 14 years.
