Hi all,
Anyone else having issues with them this year? The are all over my birch tree and shrubs at back door and very annoying. Is there much I can do apart from blast with water?
Thanks 😊

My birch is about the only thing they aren't on.

Oh they are on mine. I have honeydew dropping on my read from them. Hopefully it will be ok.

When aphids took over the world...
Luckily there aren't any carnivorous ones yet.
    Are there?
  • Really bad on my zinnias and shrub honeysuckle - neither which have suffered before. I’m going to try spraying with a washing up liquid and garlic solution- will let you know.

Don't really have any here. The blue tits eat any that do appear.
I don't grow lots of susceptible plants though. The sweet peas get some , but usually later in the year.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

The backs of the leaves of my blackcurrant were covered in light green ones a couple of days ago and a lot of the leaves had yellowed and fallen, with honeydew on most lower leaves.  Today, no sign of them!  I did precisely nothing, but something's been busy! :D
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • I've tried spraying with soapy water which worked very well - the aphids shriveled up and turned brown. I've also read on the Rose thread to add spent tea leaves to the soil around the roots, which is supposed to make the plant unpalatable. This might take a while though, at least I drink a lot of tea!

Same here... roses, young crabapple tree, runner beans, nasturtium. I go out with a toothbrush dipped with soapy water to manually remove them, then dump the aphid soup... I've also got black ants crawling around, googled and told ants "farm" the aphids, not eat them...
