I resurrected this thread because I find it interesting to see what poll results show with a good number of respondants (over 70 here) and an even spread of responses.
I use Persil liquid in the washing machine dispenser. Most stuff gets washed at 40C, but I do wash towels and bedding at 60C. My new washing machine tells me to do a drum clean every 40 washes, a hot wash with no laundry. Perhaps heavier on energy, but I’d rather prioritise hygiene.
I’ve used it since I was in Venice and needed to use a launderette. The lady who ran it said it was common practice when washing at low temperatures. It’s been available for years but has sprung up in more places since Covid/more people washing at 20/30.
I never use them. There is nothing better than a washing line in the garden. That smell of air-dried (in particular bed) clothing can't be beaten by anything.
