My washing machine instruction book says to occasionally run the hottest program (95 degrees), with biological powder but empty, to clean out any gunk. That seems wasteful to me, so I save up the dusters, old towels used for cleaning cloths, plain cotton/linen tea towels etc and put those on the hot wash. Seems to work, it's not at all smelly.

  • @Fairygirl I dissolve my washing powder in boiling water and then pour it in the dispenser as the cold water goes in. :D

That's an idea @Fritillary - but I'd have to boil the kettle...
I could time it with having yet another cup of tea though  ;)

I only use it for bedding. It damages the elastic in underwear and various other clothing I believe .

I do a monthly cycle on the hottest setting and I too use it for towels, cloths, rags etc. Ecoli builds up in your machine.

Using sanitiser is an interesting approach.

Mostly underwear, but also towels and bedding. Tiny amounts, but it stays in the machine and builds up over time if you use eco soap and/or cool wash setting.
