  Def not Teasel as that is in the same bed. The leaves are quite soft and furry, with the main stem also with soft down.

  According to my Keble-Martin Concise British Flora it could be the Small Teasel ... Dipsacus pilosus (pilosus meaning hairy/furry)

  Thanks but I’m pretty sure it isn’t a Teasel, the leaf does not possess the spines on the underside.

  Intriguing ... do show us a photo when it produces a flower ... we need to know what it is now or we'll be constantly puzzled ......

  Well yes it does @Papi Jo, but the OP has assured us several times that it cannot be a teasel because the leaves and stems are soft and furry and there are no spines on the back of the main rib of the leaves ... otherwise I would agree with you ... but we are assured that it must be something else, so we must wait to see a flower ...

  Dipsacus pilosus .....Mystery plant has very different leaves that look as if they are clasping the stem. No stalks.....think we can rule this out.
