New slug trap

I couldnt find this anywhere so maybe I have found a new way to deal with slugs, If this is old news then I apologise for wasting your time :)
I heard some hedgehogs at the back of the garden, we have high walls with beds at the top and slugs there were a real nuisance. I decided to put some milk out for the hedgehogs in the hope they would devour the slugs.
We only had soya milk, put it out anyway, I expect hedgehogs prefer dairy free. Went out  later that night to find about 12 slugs all in the saucer, I left them and as no plants had been touched and the slugs were gone in the morning, I assume the hedgehog hoovered them up.
So I now leave a small saucer of soya milk out and its the best slug trap I have ever seen.

Happy gardening.

Please don't put milk out for hedgehogs. It's very bad for them.

Ensure there's a water supply for them instead - a tray or dish that they can access easily.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Slugs love peanuts. If you put a bird feeder with peanuts on the earth you can go in the night and pick them off and do whatever you do with them. Soya milk is good to know about (I have no hedgehogs).

@stevekingZLokcpkq - I should have said that it's cow's milk that is the major problem for hedgehogs because of the lactose. I don't know if soya milk contains it, although I expect not.
You could have a look online to find out  :)

  • I'm glad you told me though Fairygirl as I would have put normal milk out, soya doesn't contain any lactose.
Thanks Fire, I'll try the peanut thing. I sometimes put them in the green bin, they can munch to their hearts content :)
  • I’m sorry to mention but peanuts on the floor are really bad for hedgehogs too! It causes metabolic bone disease in them, I only found this out recently myself… I put down a sauce full of Tesco own brand kitten kibble (a small box is only about 80p) but the slugs love it I normally pick up about 20-30 slugs feasting on them plus the hedgehog hoover up the remaining kibble they love them as much as the slugs! Hope this helps

More  information here about the best things for feeding hedgehogs @stevekingZLokcpkq .
    http://www.hedgehog-rescue.org.uk/feeding.php

A meat based dog or cat food goes down very well l find, and of course a dish of water as well.
Please, please, please do not give hedghogs milk of any persuasion either with bread or without.
Also peanuts and mealworms are very bad for them, so if you put out food for the birds, please sweep up before our spiky friends come out at night 🦔.
  • Sue Houston: A search on Tesco.com for kitten kibble brought up 'No products found'.
  • @Mike Friday Think there’s a problem with Tesco supply chain for this at the mo, but this is the one I meant
  • I presume that you wet it first (?)
