My theory for world peace is we should all marry someone who is a different colour. Racism would practically vanish within a generation or two.

I think there was a song about that - "coffee coloured people by the score"

Owain Glyndwr was British, wasn't he? If we count the Welsh, which I suppose we might not....

If this is Kocher, maybe @Daniel Haynes might confirm for us?
Did this question get a response from @Daniel Haynes?

I know it belongs on the other thread but I completely agree with gifted. Are people not given things any more?

The Sherlock Holmes is the complete Holmes - UK version. I think it was in there, as I recall being 'thrown' by its (check's) use.
As for program/programme - I follow the def given online NOW, but I don't recall there being such a distinction back in the 70s when I started coding. Maybe as programming (?!) was more American (I think all the languages I used had an American base as the kit was American) then their version of program took more of a foothold. As I say, I used to use that spelling back then interchangeably. I've just checked my old school dictionary (The Little Oxford Dictionary - 4th Edition - 1969) and it shows both programme and program as valid spellings (without even mentioning the U.S.)- if you want I'll post a photo!
I used to rail against the American use of the word soccer for football as well, until it was pointed out that soccer started as a public school thing like rugger (and was a contraction of association with 'er' or 'a' added)

Edited: Added the photo anyway - luckily it wasn't on a page where I'd marked a smutty word...

On the other hand, Dove, threads twist this way and that and sometimes evolve into a discussion of usage and etymology.
That's very often the case - perhaps we should ring the changes and try entomology instead?
