How to tone down orange fence panels

  • Hi there, we used one coat of Ronseal Fence Life Plus+ in Warm Stone. I've attached a couple of pictures.  First one shows the fence panels on one side which have naturally weathered silvery grey over time.  The second pic below shows the fence that started out bright orange but with one coat of the Ronseal fence paint so you can decide yourself whether this is would work for you.

  • Black fence paint sounds intriguing - best on a sunny side of the garden or even on a shadier side? Is there a particularly good brand to use? Thanks.

That's a nice colour Frijolitas and so much better than the migraine inducing orange colour.

That is a very nice finished colour @frijolitas - looks like natural weathered wood.

@dappled shade I have used black stain on fences and on the shed. It looks good. The fence / shed sort of fade into the background and black is a good foil for foliage.

The only thing to beware of are very shady areas - especially at the back of a border. I have found that you tend to get green algae growing which IMO shows up more on a black fence than on a silvered / natural coloured one.

Areas exposed to sun don't have the same problem.

I use Bedec Barn Paint in matt black. I think it's expensive (£50 - 60 for 5 ltrs)- but it's nice to use and lasts a few seasons.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down

Looking out the window, I noticed a charcoal grey fence clothed in nasturtiums. It looked beautiful. The trouble is, nasturtiums don't flower all year.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

Wow that's amazing, looks really natural. Thanks for the recommendation!
