Wow, just had our first boiling of French climbing bean Cobra. Planted in propagator 28 th February. Under a large light bulb in porch Until warm enough to be planted out in cold greenhouse. Fleece covered when sudden freeze came. Delicious! Valerie

That's a very nice large neat green house. Are you in the UK? I found some runners I saved 2017,no idea what happened to last years seeds, they are germinating. This is the first time I have grown Cobra. They are outside and second batch sown yesterday.
  • Hi Nanny Beach,
yes we are in the Uk, we never put Cobra outside even as we are in a nice warm area very close to the sea. I think our greatest help is a very large light bulb I bought years ago and didn’t use much. Lowered on a line over the top of the beans. I’m putting runner beans outside for a late crop and will sow them in June. I can usually freeze the crop not eaten and use them till this crop is ready. I ran out last week, so not too bad. I’m trying to find a tomato that freezes well. If anyone knows of one I’d be happy to try it. Stipa is a new one for me this year.  Valerie

I have yet to find a tomato that freezes without going soft, but the best to date are Roma.

Mine too.  I have 6 types of beans all coming up at once, so the weather better pick-up quick!  GH is already chocka.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • NewBoy2. Yours will only cost you the seeds and time, mine cost from the moment I put them in the propagator. I try to eat veges within  3 hours of picking as I believe that was the only thing that kept our grandparents going under adverse conditions till nearly a 100. Something to do with enzymes that I don’t think we understand enough about. Valerie

I put mine out for the day. They are going back in tonight. Thus starts a week of the hokey cokey. I hope it stops raining soon so I can get on the soil. Sweetcorn will be ready to go out soon as well.
