@listy528 I'm sorry to hear about your wee birds, it must have been heartbreaking. We have a number of birds nesting in our garden, spring and summer is such an anxious time for us! It's amazing how much we invest in these tiny creatures and how attached we become to them! As @Fire so beautifully said, death is very much part of nature, an integral part of all forms of existence. The only thing we can do is find ways to provide habitat and help wildlife as much as we can. You can make bird feeders and get a bird bath, there's a lot of fun to be had from helping nature along. I genuinely don't know who gets more joy from our bird bath, the blackbirds and dunnocks that visit it or us watching them! So onwards and upwards, I think the next pair of birds that decide to nest in your garden are incredibly lucky to have such a caring person to look after them.
To FritillariaScotland, Just wanted to say Thank you for saying such lovely, wonderful words, I'm genuinely touched.🥰 I'm always watching the garden seeing what has come to visit, it is a genuine pleasure to see such amazing nature in your own garden, it makes me feel really proud! I think the death of my robin family hurt so much because she has been in my garden for quite a while, she actually sat on my shoulder once before she realised where she was! She was my little friend and I used to talk to her. I probably sound completely mad now I expect!
I am totally devastated, my heart genuinely broke to find her and her babies dead, but, yes, I have to accept that these things happen. Everyone is so kind with their words, and I have to tell myself it will get better. Hopefully I'll get a new little friend soon
