If the house is listed (and I did wonder) it may be because of the ornate plasterwork on the walls (pargetting?). Are you in Sussex or Essex by any chance? In which case either wires would not be permitted and/or there is a risk that damp could penetrate via the screw holes. Sorry to rain on your parade but caution is needed I think and perhaps a professional opinion.
Not convinced about a standard so close to the house but maybe build an arch or pergola across the path and down the garden and train the wisteria over that instead of up the house? Maybe too much of an investment for a rented house tho unless you can use reclaimed timber form somewhere.
