I refuse to spend money on feeding pigeons.

That's why I have purpose built cages @alexryzawlskiqBU-X4OF:)
Bits that fall on the ground are taken by the bigger birds, although the rooks, jackdaws and crows don't often come in, despite an abundance of them here. Plenty of wood pigeons too, but try as they might, they can't access anything other than the fallen stuff, or the berrying shrubs. I only ground feed [tray] through autumn and winter.
There's plenty of habitat and food around for them anyway, as we're next to farmland and a small NT garden.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I can sympathise,as we do the same thing, the jackdaws are a real nuisance, they frighten off the small birds, tried every kind of feeder you can think of but they still get there and shake food all over the ground. Now being woken in the small hours by them scrabbling around on the roof. Next door gives them bread, but they still want the small bird food.😕

Our blackbirds and robins have learnt to use the Fatsia leaves under the suet feeder as a table so they have priority over the pidgeons who are too big and clumsy to balance.  The fatsia really needs a good prune but I’ve been putting it off for months and now I don’t want to upset the birds! My OH made a separate feeder for the squirrels which seems to keep them off the bird feeders and also keeps us entertained.
