Sowing seeds

  • Growing plants from seeds is a dark art, Fred! My sweet Williams and echinacea seeds have been taking ages for some reason. They just appeared after about six weeks off waiting! Everything else has been fine, but now I started worrying about whether the plants will be big enough to be hardened off and planted out in time. The whole thing is torture, really 🤣

@FritillariaScotland You can keep both of those plants in pots, over winter and plant out next spring. In fact the echinacea will do far better treated like that.
I do that with most plants, not good weather here in the winter.

  • That's a good idea @lyn, I might just keep them back a year. It makes perfect sense!

Doesn't seem be an exacting science. I sowed some chard Bright lights,a couple of years out of date, every one has germinated. I get a free packet of seeds every week in another gardening mag, sowed pretty quickly. New packet of sunflowers only one has germinated.
  • Thanks for all your help.

I don’t think the above poster is aware that ads need to be paid for on this site,  I wonder if he will come from NZ to clean mine.
